Parent Communication / Family Engagement

All communication for parents/guardians of ELLs must be in their preferred language and mode of communication. Moreover, use of the approved telephone service, Language Line Solutions, will be available for translation purposes. In an effort to best support parents, the school district will create an ENL parent page on the district website where instructional videos will be found on how to do the following:

  • Access Google Classroom and Seesaw (ie. classwork, stream)

    • Upload documents to Google Classroom

  • Access Google Meet

  • Access student email accounts

  • Navigate district website (ie. language-setting, navigation banner, parent resources)

  • Access Infinite Campus parent/student portal 

  • Access Internet connection on a district-provided device, if needed

  • Navigating various platforms; Flipgrid, Nearpod, ScreencastifyBookwidget, Flippity, etc

ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ Families will also be provided information about local community resources such as:

  • Adelante (Central Islip, NY)

    • Offers programs in housing and case management, mental hygiene, family and youth services, housing & tenant counseling services, job development, English classes, youth leadership, afterschool programs, and assistance with nutrition and Medicaid

  • Pronto (ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ, NY)

    • Offers community events, a food pantry, thrift center, and warehouse with gently used household items, as well as English as a Second Language and citizenship classes

  • Empire Justice Center (Central Islip, NY)

    • Involved in litigation, policy, and training to strengthen the legal rights of New Yorkers who are poor, disabled, or disenfranchised, in a variety of areas. Immigration services, with a focus on immigrant victims of crime, include government benefit assistance and representation and technical assistance

  • Make the Road New York (Brentwood, NY)

    • A direct service and advocacy organization with programs in adult literacy, civic engagement, community organizing, healthcare and public assistance access, leadership development, legal services, and youth and school programs
