After a first round bye, the ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ Boys Varsity Tennis team faced league rivals West Islip today, May 23rd in their second round matchup. After two 4-3 victories in the regular season against WI we knew it would be a battle. The boys were up to the challenge winning 6-1. Stefan Pallotta partnered with Joe Corrado as they defeated a tough West Islip 1st doubles team of Richie Racanelli/Evan Raible. They won 4-6,6-3,7-6. That tiebreaker victory made the season tiebreaker record in all of the team’s matches a staggering 17-3! Even on the one court ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ lost at first singles Connor Cochrane managed to take a set off of senior Marty Racanelli losing 6-4,1-6,3-6 . An impressive feat considering not one player has done that within league 3 in the past 3 years. Bay shore plays #2 seed Commack, May 24th in the quarterfinals at Commack.

This past weekend was the Division 2 tennis tournament where ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ varsity boys tennis team performed quite well. Their accomplishments earned 7 players All County honors and they will move on to the county tournament this weekend. Leading the charge in singles were top 2 singles players Connor Cochrane and Stefan Pallotta. They will play each other today to determine who is 3rd place and who is 4th place in the division. Henry Sampson also made All County in singles and will be playing today to try to finish 5th. The doubles situation is nearly identical with the top 2 ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ doubles teams playing each other to determine 3rd and 4th place. Dean Danzi/Christian Coolbaugh will face teammates Joe Corrado/Peter Fleischer but all four players have achieved All County honors by placing top 4 in the division. Jack Carney/Colin Winter also had a great tournament knocking out the 4 seed and will receive All Division honors. The only team that could stop them were their own teammates (Joe/Peter). Jack and Colin will also play for the 5th spot where they would be an alternate team for the county tournament.

Boys varsity tennis rounded out the first half of their league schedule with 2 decisive wins vs Connetquot (5-2) and Islip. This brings their league record to 5-0.

On April 11th, they defeated Islip 6-1 with great tennis on every court. Both 2nd singles John Pallotta and 1st Doubles Christian Coolbaugh/Dean Danzi had tough 3 set matches against opponents looking to make a statement. Stefan kept fighting and grinded out a 6-4,4-6,7-6(7-5) win. Christian and Dean brushed off a 1st set loss 5-7 and then came back with a 6-1 2nd set victory. The third set started 0-3 down but then they rattled off 6 straight games to cement their place as the doubles team to beat in league 3.

There is still work to be done as the team looks to continue their dominance vs West Islip on 4/13 and work hard to improve as they head towards the individual and team tournaments coming in a few weeks.
